On July 28, All Nippon Airways (ANA) and The Pokémon Company unveiled the "Pokémon Jet Red" aircraft, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise.
The project is inspired by the original Game Boy titles, Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Green Version, released 30 years ago. The first aircraft in this special livery series is "Pokémon Jet Red," with a "Pokémon Jet Green" planned as the second installment. A third aircraft, "Pokémon Jet Blue," is also in development.
The "Pokémon Jet Red" is a Boeing 787-8 (registration: JA819A) designated for domestic routes. The livery features Pikachu alongside Fire-type starter Pokémon from every generation of the core series games.
The left side of the fuselage showcases Charmander (Pokémon Red/Green), Fuecoco (Pokémon Scarlet/Violet), Fennekin (Pokémon X/Y, and Torchic (Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire), as well as Pomuken from the upcoming game Pokémon Wind and Wave. The right side features Litten (Pokémon Sun/Moon), Scorbunny (Pokémon Sword/Shield), Cyndaquil (Pokémon Gold/Silver), Chimchar (Pokémon Diamond/Pearl), and Tepig (Pokémon Black/White). The iconic Pikachu joins the lineup on each side.
Inside, the cabin is adorned with specially designed headrest covers, paper cups for drink service, and cocktail napkins (on international flights only). Passengers will also receive exclusive, originally designed stickers as a souvenir.
To mark the occasion, a special ceremony hosted by both companies was held at an ANA hangar on the day of the reveal. Keiji Omae, Executive Vice President of ANA, and Takato Utsunomiya, Representative Director and Chief Operating Officer of The Pokémon Company, spoke at the event. They noted that while the two companies have a history of collaborating on specially decorated aircraft since the first Pokémon Jet in 1998, this is the first time they are rolling out a series of three jets (Red, Green, and Blue) concurrently. Both speakers emphasized that the project is more than just a marketing collaboration; it's an initiative designed to bring joy and excitement to travelers.
Furthermore, a special event for the augmented reality mobile game *Pokémon GO* launched today, July 28, at 4:00 PM. Special PokéStops and Gyms are now appearing at six airports across the Hokkaido, Tohoku, and Kanto regions. By completing Raid Battles and Timed Research, players can encounter and catch a special Charmander that features the "Pokémon Jet Red" as a location card background.
The "Pokémon Jet Red" is scheduled to begin service tomorrow, July 29.
