Capella Kyoto to Open Spring 2026 on the East Bank of Kamo River, Part of a Revitalization Project with a New Kaburenjo Theater

NTT Urban Development Corporation has announced the completion of its redevelopment project on the former site of Shindo Elementary School.
The hotel building, which will house 130 Komatsu-cho, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto, was finished in September. With this announcement, the hotel's official opening has been set for spring 2026.
The hotel will have a total of 89 rooms. Its design, overseen by the globally acclaimed architectural firm Kengo Kuma and Associates, features an exterior that blends harmoniously with the scenic landscape of the Higashiyama area.
Beyond the hotel, the redevelopment project also includes a newly constructed Kaburenjo, a theater for traditional Japanese stage performances, which is scheduled to hold its inaugural performance this November. Additionally, the complex features community facilities serving as a disaster prevention hub and a children's center, all intended to revitalize the local area and enhance its charm and appeal.
