Universal Studios Japan Kicks Off "Universal Cool Japan 2026"! Actress Mei Hata Previews Immersive Detective Conan and Jujutsu Kaisen Attractions at Opening Ceremony

Universal Cool Japan, USJ's annual celebration of Japanese entertainment, kicks off for another year.

Universal Studios Japan is set to launch "Universal Cool Japan 2026," an event bringing together Japan's most iconic entertainment brands, starting January 30. Ahead of the public opening, a special ceremony was held, giving the media a first look at the full lineup of limited-time attractions.

Actress Mei Hata appeared as a special guest at the ceremony. Having had a chance to preview the "Detective Conan" real escape game, Hata shared her excitement: "The feeling of solving the puzzles myself and progressing through the story was incredibly realistic and immersive! I got a little frustrated when I couldn't solve a puzzle," she admitted with a smile. She added, "This event brings together entertainment brands from Japan and is filled with unforgettable experiences. I was completely drawn in. I truly hope everyone gets the chance to come and experience it."

Launched in 2015, "Universal Cool Japan" is an annual event that celebrates Japan's globally acclaimed entertainment, including manga, anime, games, music, and fashion, by transforming them into "real," immersive experiences unique to the theme park.

Now in its 11th year, the event features five of Japan's most popular franchises: "Detective Conan," "Jujutsu Kaisen," "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," "Monster Hunter Wilds," and the "Masquerade" series by renowned author Keigo Higashino. Visitors can dive into the worlds of these beloved stories through limited-time attractions and shows, as well as purchase exclusive new merchandise and food available only at USJ.
